Will I lose access to Nitro features immediately?

No. Your Nitro or Nitro Basic perks remain active until the end of your current billing period. After that date, your account reverts to the free tier. If you cancel during a free trial, however, you may lose access immediately.

What is the difference between Nitro and Nitro Basic?

Nitro ($9.99/month or $99.99/year) includes 500 MB file uploads, 4K/60fps streaming, two free Server Boosts, animated avatars and banners, custom profiles, and the ability to join up to 200 servers. Nitro Basic ($2.99/month or $29.99/year) includes 50 MB file uploads, custom emoji and stickers everywhere, a Nitro badge, custom video backgrounds, and custom app icons — but no Server Boosts, HD streaming, or animated profile features.

Can I get a refund after canceling?

Discord offers a one-time refund within 5 days of purchase, provided you have not used any Nitro perks. After that window, no refund is issued. If you were charged in error or experienced an unauthorized payment, contact Discord Support for a review.

Can I switch between Nitro and Nitro Basic instead of canceling?

Yes. In your Subscription settings, you can switch between Nitro and Nitro Basic at any time. If you downgrade from Nitro to Nitro Basic, the change takes effect at the end of your current billing period. This lets you keep some premium features at a lower price.

What happens to my Server Boosts when I cancel Nitro?

If you have the full Nitro plan, you receive two free Server Boosts. When your Nitro subscription ends, those boosts are removed from the servers you boosted. The servers lose the perks associated with your boosts. If you want to keep boosting, you would need to purchase boosts separately.

Will I lose my custom profile and avatar decorations?

Yes. Any animated avatar, animated banner, profile theme, or avatar decoration that requires Nitro will revert to the default appearance once your subscription ends. Your profile picture itself is preserved, but animated GIF avatars will display as a static frame on the free tier.

How do I know if I subscribed through Discord, Apple, or Google?

Check your email for past payment receipts. If you see charges from Apple or Google rather than Discord, you subscribed through that platform. You can also check the Subscriptions page in Discord — it will indicate whether your subscription is managed by Apple, Google, or Discord directly.

Can I cancel Nitro from the Discord mobile app?

Yes, if you originally subscribed through the Discord mobile app (not the App Store or Google Play). Open the Discord app, go to the You tab, tap Settings, then Billing Settings, and Subscriptions. If you subscribed through Apple or Google, you must cancel through their respective settings.

Does canceling Nitro delete my Discord account?

No. Canceling Nitro only ends your premium subscription. Your Discord account, servers, messages, friends list, and all other data remain intact. You simply lose access to Nitro-exclusive features.

Can I resubscribe to Nitro later?

Yes. You can resubscribe at any time by going to User Settings, then Subscriptions, and selecting a Nitro plan. Discord occasionally offers promotional pricing or free trial periods for returning subscribers.

Discord offers two paid tiers: Nitro ($9.99/month or $99.99/year) and Nitro Basic ($2.99/month or $29.99/year). The cancellation process is the same for both tiers. When you cancel, you lose access to all premium features at the end of your current billing period, regardless of which tier you are on.

On the Discord App or Website

If you subscribed directly through Discord on desktop, the web app, or a mobile device, cancel through Discord's built-in subscription settings. You must cancel on the same platform type (desktop/web or mobile) where you originally purchased.

1Open Discord

Launch the Discord desktop app, or open discord.com in your web browser and sign in to your account. On mobile, open the Discord app and tap the You tab (your profile picture) at the bottom right.

2Open User Settings

Click the gear icon next to your username and avatar at the bottom left of the screen. On mobile, tap the Settings cog in the top right corner of your profile screen.

3Go to Subscriptions

In the left sidebar, scroll down to Billing Settings and click Subscriptions. On mobile, scroll down to find Billing Settings, then tap Subscriptions. You will see your active Nitro or Nitro Basic plan listed here.

4Click Cancel

Click the Cancel button on your Nitro or Nitro Basic subscription banner. Discord may show you a summary of the perks you will lose.

5Follow the Cancellation Prompts

Discord will present retention offers such as a plan switch or discount. Skip these if you want to fully cancel. Select a cancellation reason when prompted and continue through the screens.

6Confirm Cancellation

Click the final confirmation button to complete the cancellation. Your subscription settings will now display the date your Nitro benefits expire. Discord will also send a confirmation email to your registered address.

You must cancel on the same platform type where you originally purchased. If you bought Nitro through the desktop or web app, you must cancel through desktop or web. If you purchased through a mobile device directly within Discord, you must cancel from a mobile device. If you subscribed through the App Store or Google Play, see the sections below.

On the App Store (iOS)

If you subscribed to Discord Nitro through Apple's App Store, you must cancel through Apple's subscription settings. The Discord app cannot process the cancellation for App Store purchases.

1Open iPhone Settings

Tap the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad home screen.

2Tap Your Apple ID

At the top of the Settings menu, tap your name and Apple ID banner to open your Apple ID account management screen.

3Select Subscriptions

Tap Subscriptions from the list. You will see all active and expired subscriptions linked to your Apple ID.

4Select Discord Nitro

Find Discord Nitro or Discord Nitro Basic in your list of active subscriptions and tap it. If Discord does not appear here, your subscription was not billed through Apple.

5Cancel the Subscription

Tap Cancel Subscription at the bottom of the screen and confirm when prompted. Your Nitro benefits continue until the end of your current Apple billing cycle.

After canceling through Apple, your Discord account is not deleted. Your Nitro perks remain active until the billing period ends. To request a refund for an App Store purchase, visit reportaproblem.apple.com — Apple handles all refunds for App Store subscriptions, not Discord.

On Google Play (Android)

If you subscribed to Discord Nitro through the Google Play Store, you need to cancel through Google's subscription management. Canceling inside Discord will not stop Google Play billing.

1Open Google Play Store

Launch the Google Play Store app on your Android device. Alternatively, go to play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions in any web browser.

2Access Your Profile

Tap your profile icon in the top right corner of the Play Store to open the account menu.

3Go to Payments & Subscriptions

Select Payments & subscriptions from the menu, then tap Subscriptions. This displays all your active Google Play subscriptions.

4Select Discord Nitro

Find Discord Nitro or Discord Nitro Basic in the subscriptions list and tap it. If Discord is not listed, your subscription is billed directly through Discord, not Google.

5Cancel Your Subscription

Tap Cancel subscription and follow the on-screen prompts to confirm. Your Nitro benefits remain active until the end of the current Google Play billing cycle.

Google Play subscriptions follow Google's refund policy. To request a refund for a Google Play purchase, visit Google Play Help.

Discord Nitro Refund Policy

Discord's refund policy is relatively strict. You are eligible for one refund per purchase category only — meaning if you have previously received a refund for any Nitro subscription, you will not be eligible for another Nitro subscription refund in the future.

Refund window: You can request a refund within 5 days of purchasing Nitro, but only if you have not used any of the premium perks (such as uploading large files, using custom emoji in other servers, or boosting a server). If you have used any Nitro features during that window, Discord may deny the request.

How to request a refund: Submit a request through the Discord Support form using the email address associated with your Discord account. Select the Billing category and describe your situation.

App Store and Google Play purchases: If you subscribed through Apple or Google, Discord cannot process your refund. You must request it through Apple Support or Google Play Help instead.

Gift subscriptions: For unclaimed Nitro gifts purchased on desktop, web, or Android, you have 5 days from the initial purchase date to request a refund through Discord Support. Claimed gifts are not eligible for refunds.

Non-refundable items: Discord does not offer refunds for profile cosmetics (Avatar Decorations, Profile Effects), downloadable content, or in-app purchases like potions.
