How to Cancel PlayStation Plus

·8 min read

Step-by-step guide to cancel your PlayStation Plus subscription on the web, PS5, PS4, or the PlayStation App. Takes about 5 minutes.

Cancel your PlayStation Plus subscription in under 5 minutes. The steps below work for all three tiers — Essential, Extra, and Premium. Pick the method that matches where you want to cancel.

On the PlayStation Website

The quickest way to cancel PlayStation Plus is through Sony's account management website. You can do this from any computer or mobile browser. Your subscription benefits stay active until the end of your current billing period.

1Open Account Management
Open your web browser and go to PlayStation Account Management. Click Sign In if you are not already logged in.
2Sign In to Your PSN Account
Enter the email address and password associated with your PlayStation Network account. If you use two-step verification, enter the code sent to your phone or authenticator app.
3Select Subscription
From the left-hand menu, click Subscription. This page displays your active PlayStation Plus membership, including your current tier and renewal date.
4Cancel Your Subscription
Click Cancel Subscription next to PlayStation Plus. Sony may present you with a retention offer or suggest downgrading to a lower tier — decline these if you want to cancel entirely.
5Confirm Cancellation
Follow the on-screen prompts to confirm your cancellation. You will see a message confirming the date your access ends. Sony will also send a confirmation email to your registered address.
Canceling turns off auto-renewal. You keep full access to your PlayStation Plus benefits — including online multiplayer, monthly games, and cloud storage — until your current billing period ends. After that, you lose access to monthly games and online multiplayer, but any games you purchased at a PS Plus discount are yours to keep.

On PS5

You can cancel directly from your PS5 without opening a web browser. The entire process takes just a few taps from the home screen.

1Open Settings
From the PS5 home screen, select the Settings gear icon in the top-right corner.
2Go to Users and Accounts
In the Settings menu, select Users and Accounts.
3Navigate to Subscriptions
Select Account, then Payment and Subscriptions, then Subscriptions. You will see a list of all active subscriptions tied to your PSN account.
4Select PlayStation Plus
Select PlayStation Plus from the subscriptions list. This opens the details page for your membership, showing your tier and next payment date.
5Cancel Subscription
Select Cancel Subscription and confirm when prompted. Your PS Plus benefits remain active until the current period expires.
If you have a child account managed through Family Management, the family manager must cancel the subscription. Child accounts cannot modify subscription settings on their own.

On PS4

Canceling on PS4 follows a slightly different menu path than PS5, but it is equally straightforward.

1Open Settings
From the PS4 home screen, scroll up to the top menu bar and select Settings.
2Go to Account Management
Select Account Management from the Settings menu.
3Open Account Information
Select Account Information, then select Subscriptions. This shows all subscriptions linked to your PSN account.
4Select PlayStation Plus
Select PlayStation Plus from the list. You will see your membership tier and renewal date.
5Cancel Subscription
Select Cancel Subscription and confirm when prompted. You retain access to all PS Plus benefits until the end of the current billing period.
If you do not see PlayStation Plus under Subscriptions, your membership may have already expired or may be managed by a different account on the console. Check the Account Information screen to verify which PSN account is signed in.

On the PlayStation App (Mobile)

You can also cancel from the PlayStation App on your iPhone or Android device. The app redirects you to a mobile-optimized version of the account management page.

1Open the PlayStation App
Launch the PlayStation App on your phone. If you are not signed in, enter your PSN email and password.
2Go to the PlayStation Store
Tap the PlayStation Store icon at the bottom of the screen to open the store section.
3Open Subscription Management
Tap the menu icon in the top-right corner and select Subscription Management. The app will open a web view showing your active subscriptions.
4Cancel PlayStation Plus
Find PlayStation Plus in the list and tap Cancel. Follow the prompts to confirm the cancellation.
5Verify the Cancellation
Check for a confirmation message on screen and a confirmation email from Sony. Your benefits continue until the billing period ends.
If the in-app web view does not load properly, copy the URL and open it in your phone's default browser instead. You can also use the full website method from any mobile browser by going to store.playstation.com.

PlayStation Plus Refund Policy

Sony offers a 14-day cancellation window for PlayStation Plus subscriptions. If you cancel within 14 days of your initial purchase, you are entitled to a refund even if you have already used the service. The refund amount may be reduced on a pro-rata basis to reflect your usage during that period, such as playing online multiplayer, redeeming monthly games, or using cloud storage.

After the 14-day window, you cannot receive a refund for any remaining time on your subscription. Canceling after this period simply turns off auto-renewal, and your benefits continue until the end of the current billing cycle.

If you signed up through a free trial, the 14-day cancellation period begins on the day the trial started — not the day you were first charged. For example, if you start a 7-day free trial, you have only 7 days after your first payment to request a refund.

Refunds are issued to your original payment method when possible. If Sony cannot refund the original method (for instance, if a voucher or expired card was used), the amount is credited to your PSN wallet instead. To request a refund, contact PlayStation Support by phone at 1-800-345-7669 or through their live chat.
