How to Cancel Amazon Prime

·8 min read

Step-by-step instructions to cancel your Amazon Prime membership on the web, mobile app, iOS, and Android. Takes about 5 minutes.

Cancel your Amazon Prime membership in about 5 minutes. Pick the method that matches how you signed up.

On Amazon.com

The most common way to cancel Amazon Prime is through the Amazon website. You can cancel anytime, and your membership remains active until the end of your current billing period.

1Go to Amazon.com
Open your web browser and navigate to amazon.com. Sign in with the email and password associated with your Prime membership.
2Open Your Prime Membership Settings
Hover over Accounts & Lists in the top-right corner of the page. Select Prime Membership from the dropdown menu. You can also go directly to amazon.com/prime.
3Click Manage Membership
On the Prime membership page, hover over or click the Manage Membership dropdown in the top-right area. Select End Membership from the options.
4Work Through the Retention Screens
Amazon will show you multiple screens designed to keep you subscribed. These screens highlight benefits you will lose, such as free shipping, Prime Video, Prime Day access, and exclusive deals. On each screen, look for the Continue to Cancel link — it is often smaller or less prominent than the "Keep My Benefits" button.
5Choose When to End Your Membership
Amazon gives you two options: end your membership immediately or keep your benefits until the end of your current billing period. If you choose to keep benefits until the period ends, auto-renewal is turned off and you will not be charged again.
6Confirm Your Cancellation
Click Cancel My Benefits on the final confirmation screen. You will receive a confirmation email from Amazon. If you chose to keep benefits through the billing period, your access continues until that date.
Amazon is known for using multiple retention screens during the cancellation process. You may see up to four or five screens offering discounts, pauses, or benefit reminders before reaching the final cancellation button. Stay patient and keep clicking through if you want to fully cancel.

On the App Store (iOS)

This method only applies if you originally subscribed to Amazon Prime through Apple's App Store. If you signed up on the Amazon website or app directly, use the web method above instead.

1Open iPhone Settings
Tap the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad. This is the gray gear icon on your home screen.
2Tap Your Apple ID
At the very top of the Settings menu, tap your name and Apple ID. This takes you to your Apple ID account management screen.
3Select Subscriptions
Tap Subscriptions from the list. You will see all active and expired subscriptions linked to your Apple ID.
4Select Amazon Prime
Find and tap Amazon Prime from your active subscriptions. If Amazon Prime is not listed here, your membership is billed directly by Amazon — use the web method instead.
5Cancel the Subscription
Tap Cancel Subscription at the bottom of the screen and confirm when prompted. Your Prime access continues until the end of your current billing period.
Most Amazon Prime memberships are billed directly by Amazon, not through Apple. If you do not see Amazon Prime in your Apple subscriptions, go to amazon.com/prime to cancel instead.

On Google Play (Android)

This method only applies if you originally subscribed to Amazon Prime through Google Play. If you signed up on the Amazon website or app directly, use the web method above.

1Open Google Play Store
Launch the Google Play Store app on your Android device. You can also visit play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions in a web browser.
2Access Your Subscriptions
Tap your profile icon in the top-right corner, then select Payments & subscriptions followed by Subscriptions.
3Select Amazon Prime
Find and tap Amazon Prime from the list. If it is not listed, your Prime membership is billed directly by Amazon — cancel through the web method instead.
4Cancel Your Subscription
Tap Cancel subscription and follow the prompts to confirm. Your access continues until the end of the current billing cycle, and you will not be charged again.
If you subscribed to Prime through the Amazon Shopping app on Android but billing is handled by Amazon directly (not Google Play), you will need to cancel on the Amazon website or in the Amazon app under Your Account, then Prime Membership, then Manage Membership.

Amazon Prime Refund Policy

Amazon has one of the more generous refund policies among subscription services. Whether you receive a refund depends on how much you have used your Prime benefits since your last charge.

  • Full refund: If you have not used any Prime benefits (free shipping, Prime Video, Prime Reading, etc.) since your most recent membership charge, Amazon will issue a full refund. This is processed within 3 to 5 business days.
  • Partial refund: In some cases, Amazon may offer a partial refund even if you have used some benefits. This is evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
  • No refund: If you have used Prime benefits extensively during your current billing period, you will not receive a refund, but your access continues until the period ends.
  • Free trial: If you cancel during your 30-day free trial before it ends, you will not be charged at all.
  • Gift or promotional memberships: Prime memberships redeemed through a gift code or promotional code are not eligible for refunds.

If you believe you are entitled to a refund that was not automatically offered during cancellation, call Amazon customer service at 1-888-280-4331 or use the Contact Us page to request one.
