Cancel your Xbox Game Pass subscription in under 5 minutes. The steps below work for all Game Pass tiers — Core, Standard, and Ultimate. Pick the method that matches where you want to cancel.
The fastest way to cancel Xbox Game Pass is through the Microsoft account portal in your web browser. This method works from any device with internet access and is the same process for all Game Pass tiers.
1Go to Microsoft Account Services
Open your web browser and navigate to account.microsoft.com/services. This takes you directly to the services and subscriptions page where all your Microsoft subscriptions are listed.
2Sign In
Sign in with the Microsoft account you use for Xbox. Enter your email address and password. If you have two-step verification enabled, complete the additional security prompt.
3Find Xbox Game Pass
Locate your Xbox Game Pass subscription in the list. It may appear as Xbox Game Pass Core, Xbox Game Pass Standard, or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate depending on your tier.
4Select Manage
Click Manage next to your Game Pass subscription. This opens the subscription detail page where you can see your billing cycle, renewal date, and cancellation options.
5Click Cancel Subscription
Click Cancel subscription. Microsoft may present retention offers such as a discounted rate or a tier switch. Decline these if you want to fully cancel.
6Confirm Cancellation
Review the cancellation summary, including the date your access ends and any applicable refund. Click Confirm cancellation to finalize. Microsoft will send a confirmation email to your registered address.
If you see Turn on recurring billing instead of a Cancel option, your subscription is already set to expire on the displayed date. Auto-renewal has already been turned off and no further action is needed.
You can also reach the subscriptions page by going to xbox.com, clicking your profile icon in the top right, selecting My Microsoft account, and then choosing Services & subscriptions from the top navigation.
On Xbox Console
You can cancel Xbox Game Pass directly from your Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, or Xbox One console without opening a web browser. The steps are the same across all Xbox console models.
1Open the Guide
Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the Guide overlay on the left side of the screen.
2Go to Settings
Press the RB shoulder button to navigate to the profile tab. Select Settings from the menu.
3Navigate to Subscriptions
In the Settings menu, select Account, then choose Subscriptions. You will see a list of all active subscriptions tied to your Microsoft account.
4Select Xbox Game Pass
Find and select your Xbox Game Pass membership from the subscriptions list. This opens the subscription detail screen showing your current tier and renewal date.
5Cancel Subscription
Scroll down and select Cancel subscription. Your console may present retention offers or suggest switching to a different tier — skip past these if you want to proceed.
6Confirm Your Decision
Follow the on-screen prompts to confirm the cancellation. You will see a message confirming when your access ends. Your Game Pass benefits remain active until the end of your current billing period.
Make sure you are signed in with the correct Xbox profile before navigating to Subscriptions. If multiple accounts are set up on the console, press and hold the Xbox button to switch profiles before starting the cancellation process.
On the Microsoft Store App (Windows)
If you are on a Windows PC, you can cancel through the Microsoft Store app without opening a web browser. This method is convenient if you primarily use Game Pass for PC gaming.
1Open the Microsoft Store
Click the Microsoft Store icon on your Windows taskbar or search for it in the Start menu. The Store app is pre-installed on Windows 10 and Windows 11.
2Access Your Account
Click your profile icon in the top-right corner of the Microsoft Store window. Make sure you are signed in with the Microsoft account tied to your Game Pass subscription.
3Go to Subscriptions
From the account menu, select Manage account or View account. This opens a browser window to your Microsoft account page. Navigate to Services & subscriptions if it does not open there directly.
4Find Xbox Game Pass
Locate your Game Pass subscription in the list of active services. Click Manage next to it.
5Cancel and Confirm
Click Cancel subscription, review the cancellation details, and confirm your decision. You will receive a confirmation email and your access continues until the end of your billing period.
The Microsoft Store app method ultimately redirects you to the same Microsoft account web page used in the website method above. If the Store app is not loading properly, go directly to account.microsoft.com/services in any web browser instead.
Xbox Game Pass Refund Policy
Microsoft's refund policy for Xbox Game Pass depends on when you cancel and how much you have used the service:
Within the first 14 days: If you cancel within 14 days of your initial purchase or most recent renewal, you may be eligible for a full or partial refund. Microsoft evaluates refund requests on a case-by-case basis and may consider how much you have used the service during that period. Refund eligibility varies by region due to local consumer protection laws.
After 14 days: No refund is issued for the remaining time on your billing period. Canceling turns off auto-renewal and your Game Pass benefits continue until the current period expires. You will not be charged again after that date.
Prepaid subscriptions: If you purchased a prepaid Game Pass code (such as a retail gift card or digital code), canceling turns off auto-renewal but does not refund the prepaid balance. Your access remains active through the full prepaid period.
Free trials: If you are on a free trial, cancel before the trial ends to avoid being charged for the first full billing cycle. The cancellation steps are the same as above.
