If your subscription is billed directly by Warner Bros. Discovery (formerly WarnerMedia), you can cancel straight from the Max website. Your access continues until the end of your current billing period.
1Go to the Max Website
Open your web browser and navigate to max.com. You can use a computer or mobile browser. This method works for subscriptions billed directly by Warner Bros. Discovery.
2Sign In to Your Account
Click Sign In in the top right corner and enter your email address and password. If you have multiple profiles, select yours after signing in.
3Open Your Subscription Settings
Click your profile icon in the top right corner of the screen. Select Subscription from the dropdown menu. At the top of this page, you can confirm who bills you for Max.
4Click Cancel Subscription
Select Cancel Your Subscription. Max may show you alternative options such as switching to a cheaper plan or pausing your subscription. Skip these if you want to fully cancel.
5Confirm Your Cancellation
Review the cancellation details, including when your access will end. Click Confirm Cancellation to complete the process. You will receive a confirmation email and can continue streaming until your billing period ends.
Not sure who bills you? Go to max.com/subscription and check the billing provider listed at the top. If it says a third party (Apple, Google, Roku, Amazon, etc.), use the matching method below instead.
On the App Store (iOS)
If you subscribed to Max through Apple, you need to cancel through your iPhone or iPad settings. Canceling inside the Max app itself will not work.
1Open iPhone Settings
Tap the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad home screen. This is the gray gear icon that comes pre-installed on all iOS devices.
2Tap Your Apple ID
At the very top of the Settings menu, tap your name and Apple ID banner. This takes you to your Apple ID account management screen.
3Select Subscriptions
Tap Subscriptions from the list of options. You will see all active and expired subscriptions linked to your Apple ID.
4Select Max
Find and tap Max (or HBO Max) from your list of active subscriptions. If you do not see it listed, your subscription is not billed through Apple.
5Cancel the Subscription
Tap Cancel Subscription at the bottom of the screen and confirm when prompted. Your Max access continues until the end of your current billing period.
On iOS 16 and later, you can also manage subscriptions by opening the App Store, tapping your profile icon, then tapping Subscriptions. For older iOS versions, go to Settings, then iTunes & App Store, then tap your Apple ID, then Subscriptions.
On Google Play (Android)
If you subscribed through Google Play on an Android device, you must cancel through the Play Store or Google's subscription management page.
Tap your profile icon in the top right corner of the Play Store. This opens a menu with your account options.
3Go to Payments & Subscriptions
Select Payments & subscriptions from the menu, then tap Subscriptions. You will see a list of all your active Google Play subscriptions.
4Select Max
Find and tap Max (or HBO Max) from your subscriptions list. If Max is not listed here, your subscription is billed through a different provider.
5Cancel Your Subscription
Tap Cancel subscription and follow the on-screen prompts to confirm. Your access continues until the current billing cycle ends, and you will not be charged again.
If you originally signed up through the Max Android app but do not see it in Google Play subscriptions, your billing may have been handled directly by Warner Bros. Discovery. Cancel at max.com/subscription instead.
On Roku
If you subscribed to Max through your Roku device, you need to cancel through Roku's subscription management portal.
1Visit the Roku Website
Open a web browser and go to my.roku.com. Sign in with the email and password associated with your Roku account.
2Access Manage Subscriptions
Once logged in, click on Manage your subscriptions. You will see all services currently billed through your Roku account.
3Find Max
Locate Max (or HBO Max) in your Active Subscriptions list and click Manage subscription.
4Turn Off Auto-Renew
Click Turn off auto-renew and confirm when prompted. You can continue streaming Max until your subscription expires at the end of your billing period.
You can also cancel directly from your Roku device. Press the Home button on your Roku remote, highlight the Max channel, press the Star button, select Manage subscription, and turn off auto-renew.
Through Amazon (Prime Video Channels)
If you added Max as a Prime Video Channel through Amazon, you need to cancel through your Amazon account.
Click Cancel Channel or Turn off auto-renewal next to Max. Confirm your cancellation when prompted.
4Verify Cancellation
You should receive a confirmation email from Amazon. Your Max access continues until the end of your current billing period.
If you subscribed to Max as a standalone Amazon Appstore purchase (not a Prime Video Channel), go to amazon.com/appstoresubscriptions and look under Your Subscriptions instead of Prime Video Channels.
Max Refund Policy
Max generally does not offer refunds for partial billing periods. When you cancel, your access continues until the end of your current billing cycle. You are not charged again, but you do not receive a prorated refund for unused days.
However, Max may issue refunds in certain situations:
If your credit card was charged without your authorization, contact Max support to report the issue.
If you attempted to cancel before your renewal date but were still charged, reach out to customer service with evidence of your cancellation attempt.
If you see duplicate charges for the same subscription period, Max support can investigate and reverse the extra charge.
If you were unable to stream content due to a prolonged service outage or technical issue on their end, a refund or credit may be offered at their discretion.
